In 2004 Mayor Newsom authorized marriage licenses for homosexual couples. The California Supreme Court ordered San Francisco to stop issuing the licenses and to void the thousands of licenses that had already been issued.
After attending Mass in the morning, he was sworn into office and promptly called attention to his pro-homosexual activism. “This city is supported by values that distinguish us as San Franciscans. As this world is dealing with the consequences of division, injustice and racism, here in our city we’re showing the world that diversity is not something to fear, but is something to embrace,” he said. “San Francisco became a beacon for the world … here we fought for marriage equality … over four thousand lesbian and gay couples were allowed to express their love and devotion and responsibility for each other.”
Last year, it was revealed that Newsome had had an affair with his campaign manager’s wife – a reflection of those San Francisco values and perhaps an expression of his version of “love and devotion and responsibility.” He is also seeking treatment for a drinking problem.
San Francisco is struggling with a low birth-rate and the lack of families. The city has the lowest percentage of children of any city in America. Imagine that!
