These that have turned the world upside down are come here also! Acts. 17:6
The time of the first Christian church at Antioch, the mission of the Church moved steadily forward. Seventy years later, Pliny expressed with deep concern and passion the proliferation of Christianity to such a degree that it then threatened the stability of the religious cults of Rome. Pliny wrote to the Roman governor of Pontus and Bithynia (Asia Minor, now Turkey) that “on an appointed day they (Christians) had been accustomed to meet before daybreak, and to recite a hymn antiphonally to Christ, as a god.” Persecution did not deter them. Threats of death only emboldened them.
Seventy years later, there was a Christian federation of congregations that stretched across the empire, from Lyons to Edessa, with Rome has their headquarters. In still another seventy-years, the Emperor Himself was threatened by the Lamb. It would only be another seventy years, before the colors of the faith were stitched into the Roman flag.
O God, you have subverted nations for your purposes, overcome tyrants, and established order in the hearts of men. Would you, for the glory of your Son, send such a revival to America, that it takes away the breath of the world!
