Why is there such a high level of distrust between conservative Christians and the public school movement, particularly the National Education Association (NEA)? Public education should serve the public – all the public. But it has increasingly drifted to the left. It seems committed to its entrenchment more as a socialization institution for leftist causes and ideology, than for education itself. What is behind this?

In part, it is the associations that the NEA has chosen to foster, and continues to pursue. It is the education and indoctrination of its own teachers at its own national training events. It is hearing one side, all the time, until you conclude that there are no other alternatives.

An example of what should not be, that has no place at an NEA convention, is the following. Dr. George Tiller of Wichita, KS, a noted partial-birth abortion specialist, recently appeared at the Women’s Leadership Conference, a component of the National Education Association conference. On hidden video, he admitted to aborting babies a day before the mother’s due date. Students for Life of America (SFLA) released the video. The NEA connection with the Feminist Majority Foundation and their annual Women’s Leadership Conference, which they host, is a part of the problem. The NEA has connections and associations that would never be allowable on the right.

In the video, Dr. Tiller showcases graphic pictures of children that he had aborted. Most of these have some type of abnormality, which justifies the abortion. The obsession with perfection, the drive to eliminate the weaker among us – all a part of the evolutionary value system, is driving the case for late-term abortions as necessary medical procedure. Kristan Hawkins, who videotaped the conference and interviewed Tiller, explained some of the abnormalities of aborted children. One child had an extra arm, a severe abnormality, but not one that could not have been addressed by corrective surgery. Hawkins asked Tiller, “Was violently killing the child the only way to go?”

Pro-lifers are repeatedly condemned for any display of graphic abortions. The images touch our hearts and could lead to “emotional resistance” to the idea of abortion. But in Tiller’s world, pictures of abnormal fetuses, stopped short of life, to perfect the race, to eradicate the dilution of the gene pool, and to spare the mother the pain of giving birth to a child with a deformity, these pictures which also stir the heart, are allowed since they seem to push the viewer toward the pro-abortion direction. So moved by the pictures and the work of Dr. Tiller, those in attendance at this session gave him a standing ovation.

Tiller is charged with 19 criminal counts in Kansas.
But he is no criminal in this group. He is hero, a warrior against a rogue state that threatens to impose its values in a way that restricts the rights of women and force a culture to stop its party long enough to be responsible by protecting and nurturing the weak.

The federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act protects born children from murder and illegalizes infanticide. Tiller’s response to the law reveals the left’s “do as I please” posture, regardless of legal restraint. “Let’s say you have 15 or 16 (later term abortions), you had 1 slip out (of the womb, born alive) with a heartbeat that is not a viable fetus, but that is born alive or has a heartbeat. Then you have to take that non-viable fetus and rush it directly to the hospital against the woman’s wishes.” A “non-viable fetus” doesn’t mean one that can’t live, it means one that is not wanted, or not perfect. This is a judgment that an abortionist should not make. His position is clear – taking the life of a child right up to the moment of death, inside the womb, is acceptable; and taking the life of a child in the minutes following birth, is also acceptable.

What kind of chilling culture have we produced? When will we wake up to what is happening around us? What will it take to shock us into the reality that we have lost Christian America?

The NEA has three million members.
