Barbara Walters made her anti-Christian view clear on a recent episode of ABC’s The View. She expressed dismay that President and Mrs. Bush had sent Christmas cards containing Scripture. Explaining the White House card: “This is what interested me, that it is a religious Christmas card.”

Walters, like most secularist, want to enjoy Christmas – without the Christ, the holidays, without the holy! She asked if the card were sent to agnostics, to atheist, to Muslims? The message was clear – everyone, should keep their Christian views silent if they might contradict those of a person with a different faith, or no faith at all. Such suppression of faith was at the root of the the liberties the founders sought in the first amendment. It is what drove persecuted Christians to these shores.

If Christ cannot be publicly mentioned at Christmas, when can he be mentioned? The scripture on the card read, “You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You gave life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.” The quote is from Nehemiah 9:6.
Christmas cards have been sent out by Presidents since Coolidge started the tradition and lite the first National Christmas Tree. The Card sent by Truman in 1950 contained the words of the angels at the birth of Christ, “Glory to God in the Highest!”
The culture war against people of faith continues and against Christmas continues.
